The Veterans Hub stands as a vital cornerstone within the community, offering a welcoming and secure environment specifically designed for veterans, those currently serving, and their loved ones. For direct enquiries, you can reach the office on 01305 777788 or email them at theveteranshubweymouth@outlook.com.
Far more than just a meeting point, it functions as a crucial staging post, facilitating convenient access to an extensive network of support services through regular drop-in sessions. These include invaluable assistance from organisations such as Defence Medical Welfare Services, expert housing advice, the comprehensive support of SSAFA, Dorset First Point, and REACH, along with specialised legal counsel from Irwin & Mitchell. Furthermore, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and Help for Heroes are among the many other essential services available, ensuring a holistic approach to veteran welfare.
Beyond these external partnerships, The Hub proudly provides in-house provisions aimed at fostering well-being. Individuals can readily access the support of a dedicated counsellor, explore a range of holistic therapies like Reiki and Acupuncture, and engage with the therapeutic benefits of art sessions. The commitment to physical and mental health is further underscored by the presence of a comprehensively equipped gym, an enriching allotment area, a serene private garden, and a tranquil quiet room, all of which are freely accessible to all eligible members. Practical needs are also met with the availability of a convenient shower block and laundry facilities, ensuring comfort and ease for visitors. Accessibility is a key consideration, with all areas of The Hub being fully wheelchair-friendly, ensuring that everyone can utilise the facilities with ease.
The social fabric of The Hub is strengthened through its regular community gatherings. On alternate Thursday evenings, between 6 PM and 8 PM, the inviting café area transforms into a space for either a supportive bereavement group or a lively veterans' social evening, offering opportunities for connection and camaraderie. Running alongside all these initiatives is the vibrant community café itself, open daily to all for a refreshing brew and delicious homemade food. It's a truly wonderful place where new friendships blossom, often with people you might not have known you needed in your life, reinforcing the strong sense of community and mutual support that defines The Veterans Hub. Established in late 2017, the core mission has always been to provide a non-clinical setting where veterans and their families can socialise, offer peer-to-peer support, and simply feel at home amongst those who understand their unique experiences.
