For adults over the age of 18 in East Sussex, West Sussex, and Brighton & Hove who are facing a mental health crisis, there are specialised assessment facilities known as The Havens. These centres are specifically designed to offer crucial support and evaluation. Access to these services is exclusively through a referral system, ensuring that individuals receive appropriate and targeted care.
Staffed by dedicated NHS professionals, The Havens operate around the clock, providing a continuous resource for those in urgent need. Their primary purpose is to serve as a vital alternative to traditional emergency departments, like A&E, for individuals experiencing a mental health crisis. This approach helps to alleviate pressure on general hospital services and ensures that patients receive care in an environment better suited to their specific needs. Furthermore, these facilities aim to prevent the necessity of hospital admission by offering intensive assessment and support that can often de-escalate crisis situations.
Currently, one of these critical Havens is situated at Mill View Hospital in Hove, serving the local community with its expert teams and comprehensive mental health provisions.
