Experiencing challenges with your mental well-being can be incredibly difficult, and it's something many people face at various points in their lives. If you're in the Royal Borough of Greenwich and grappling with everyday mental health concerns like anxiety or low mood, Greenwich Time to Talk offers a supportive, confidential, and effective short-term service, entirely free of charge.

This service, part of the national NHS Talking Therapies programme, aims to help individuals aged 16 and over to understand and manage their symptoms. They provide a range of evidence-based psychological treatments, guided by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) guidelines. These include practical approaches such as Guided Self-Help and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), as well as more in-depth Counselling. The flexibility of the service means you can access support in a way that suits you best, whether that's through online sessions, over the telephone, or with in-person appointments. Their team of therapists is based in Eltham, but they offer appointments at various centres throughout the borough to ensure accessibility. They also have a dedicated service for 16 and 17-year-olds.

It's easy to get started if you feel this service could benefit you. You can self-refer directly by completing the straightforward form available on the Oxleas NHS website. Alternatively, if you prefer to speak with someone, you can simply call their administrative team at 020 3260 1100. This team can guide you through the process and answer any initial questions you might have.

While Greenwich Time to Talk provides invaluable support for mild to moderate mental health issues, it's crucial to understand that they are not an emergency service. If you find yourself in immediate need of urgent mental health assistance, it's vital to seek help through the appropriate channels. For urgent mental health support that isn't life-threatening, you should contact the Oxleas 24-hour Mental Health Crisis Line on 0800 330 8590. However, in a genuine emergency, where you or someone else is in immediate danger, always proceed directly to A&E or dial 999.
