Our Older People’s Community Mental Health Services, with a central base at Millfield House in Leeds, are meticulously tailored for individuals aged 65 and above who are experiencing significant mental health challenges. We recognise that mental well-being is crucial at all stages of life, and therefore, we also provide comprehensive services for younger adults, specifically those ranging from 18 to 65 years of age.
The core of our support for older people is delivered by three distinct and highly skilled teams. These teams are strategically placed across Leeds, ensuring that our care is accessible and responsive to the diverse needs of the community. A cornerstone of our approach is the provision of home-based care, allowing individuals to receive vital support in the comfort and familiarity of their own environment. This commitment to home-based treatment is particularly beneficial for older people facing complex, severe, and enduring mental health problems.
Our expertise encompasses a broad spectrum of conditions commonly affecting older adults, including various mood disorders, such as severe depression and bipolar disorder, as well as different forms of psychosis that can manifest in later life. Crucially, we also offer dedicated support for individuals living with dementia, addressing both the cognitive and behavioural aspects of the condition with compassion and understanding. The interventions we provide are designed to promote stability, enhance quality of life, and support independence wherever possible.
For all new referrals into our services, whether for older adults or younger individuals, it is imperative that the initial contact is made through our Single Point of Access. This centralised system ensures that all inquiries are managed efficiently and directed to the most appropriate team for assessment and ongoing care, streamlining the process for service users and their families. Our aim is to provide timely, effective, and person-centred mental health support across Leeds, with Millfield House serving as a vital hub for our older people’s services.
