Head Space provides an out-of-hours service for individuals who feel they are nearing a mental health crisis, offering a non-clinical setting focused on peer support within a safe, calm, and structured environment. The service aims to de-escalate crisis situations, help individuals set achievable goals, and work with their Wellness Recovery Action Plans. They also facilitate onward referrals and signposting to other relevant services when needed.

While a formal appointment isn't required, a prior telephone or email contact, ideally with relevant information from existing services, is most helpful. Individuals can also self-refer by attending during opening hours. It's worth noting that intoxication is not a barrier to accessing the service, unless it leads to disruptive or violent behaviour.

Head Space operates at various locations on different days: Tuesdays and Wednesdays at Four Greens Wellbeing Hub, Fridays at The Rees Centre, and Saturdays and Sundays at Ernest English House. The service's overarching goals include reducing reliance on statutory mental health services, decreasing contact with crisis response teams, minimising the impact on the Police, and preventing inappropriate hospital admissions. Furthermore, Head Space is dedicated to promoting individual recovery, fostering increased confidence and social networks, and raising general awareness of mental health issues. A core principle of the service involves active listening, offering non-judgmental support, and acknowledging the unique strengths of each individual.
