We are Equal Lives, an organisation dedicated to championing the rights of disabled individuals across Norfolk and Suffolk. Our core purpose is to assist people of all ages who encounter obstacles due to disability, ensuring their perspectives are heard loud and clear. We operate as a user-led organisation, meaning those who directly utilise care and support services are at the helm; indeed, the vast majority of our board members identify as disabled themselves. Our conviction lies in fostering self-reliance, enabling individuals to lead autonomous lives. We achieve this through a range of crucial provisions, including comprehensive information and guidance, advocacy, Shopmobility schemes, and impactful campaigning efforts. Our commitment to the independence of disabled people underpins our approach, which is firmly rooted in the Social Model of Disability. This framework, conceived by disabled individuals, offers an enlightened perspective on the world, positing that societal barriers, rather than personal impairments or differences, are what truly limit individuals. Our objective as Equal Lives is to dismantle these restrictive barriers, collaborating with people to help them forge the lives they aspire to.
