This service is dedicated to providing comprehensive mental health support for children and young people grappling with a spectrum of emotional and psychological challenges. We address a wide range of needs, from more common difficulties like anxiety, low mood, and depression to more severe conditions such as self-harm, obsessive-compulsive disorders, psychosis, and the profound effects of trauma.
As a friendly, multidisciplinary team, our primary focus is on assessing young individuals when their struggles become overwhelming, or when there are significant concerns regarding their behaviour or overall emotional well-being. Following a thorough assessment, we offer a diverse array of therapeutic interventions. These approaches are designed to collaboratively explore the root of their difficulties, fostering new perspectives and equipping them with alternative ways of thinking and coping.
Our foundational philosophy centres on an open, collaborative, and supportive partnership with children, young people, and their families. This partnership may lead to a variety of tailored support options. For instance, for those experiencing severe and persistent mental health problems, we develop carefully planned and personalised treatment pathways. We also provide assessment, treatment, and ongoing support for children and young people with mild to moderate learning disabilities and/or complex healthcare needs, extending this support to their families. We facilitate family appointments to collectively identify and work through challenges, promoting shared understanding and resolution. Young people can engage in individual therapy sessions to gain a deeper understanding of their emotions and develop effective new coping strategies. Where appropriate, a qualified child and adolescent psychiatrist can assess and prescribe medication as part of a holistic treatment plan. We offer thorough mental health assessments and continuous support to manage conditions. Finally, we work closely with other professionals involved in a child or young person's care, offering advice and support on the most effective ways to help.
Access to our service is streamlined through YOUNITED, the central point for emotional wellbeing and mental health support for children and young people aged 5 to 17 who are registered with a GP in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.
For professionals who have concerns about a child or young person's emotional well-being and require advice before or instead of making a formal referral, our Emotional Health and Wellbeing Practitioners are available to offer guidance. You can reach them directly at ccs.ehw@nhs.net.
This service provides support in person and is proudly delivered by the NHS.
